Are you Full of S!*%? (Ep.6)
We are talking Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS for short today and I hope the title grabbed your attention because this topic is one I love to cover and by that I mean debunking the diagnosis. IBS only needs symptoms to reach a "diagnosis" and it comes from a process of elimination and not actually pinpointing what's actually going on. If you know me, this annoys me to not end which is part of the reason why I left the hospital setting and I hope through today's episode you'll understand the concept of IBS from a better lens.

Spring Cleaning and Detoxification
Be forewarned… I get intense in today's episode because this specific topic brings a lot of emotions to the surface. We are at that time of the year where spring is upon us and it is time to spring clean our homes. What about our bodies? In the health detoxification world, there's two extremes. The MLM "detox tea" harassing you in your DM's or detoxes are all b******t. I'm here to provide a third perspective and the truth. While our bodies have a natural detoxification process built in, sometimes it's not enough with the environment we currently live in. Listen with an open mind to today's episode and you'll be on your way to true health optimization.

What Alcohol Does to Your Body, Brain & Health
"In this episode, I discuss the physiological effects that drinking alcohol has on the brain and body at different levels of consumption and over time. I also describe genetic differences that predispose certain individuals to alcoholism, binge and habit-drinking. I explain alcohol metabolism in simple terms and how it effectively acts as a poison, leading to cellular stress and damage. I then explain that it impacts neuronal function and changes our thinking and behavior – hallmarks of inebriation. I also discuss how alcohol consumption of different amounts impacts inflammation, stress, neurodegeneration, and cancer risk and negatively impacts the gut microbiome, brain thickness, hormone balance, mood and feelings of motivation. Additionally, I discuss the biology of hangovers and describe science-based strategies to mitigate the severity of a hangover. Indeed, even low-to-moderate alcohol consumption negatively impacts the brain and body in direct ways. The goal of this episode is to help people make informed decisions about their alcohol consumption that are in keeping with their mental and physical health goals."

"Should I eat before or after I work out? It’s a common question for anyone who exercises, and it can be of particular interest to those who work out first thing in the morning.
